Remarkable 3G and 4G devices to become reality by 2014
A new report by Strategy Analytics predicts that 3G and 4G mobile technology is set to find its way into 20 different mobile device types that are anything but mobile phones. From laptops to cameras, GPS devices to portable game consoles, every type of mobile device is set to become 3G-enabled as the technology and its cost shrink inexorably. By 2014, the company predicts over 100 million of these always connected devices will have been bought, leading to a golden age of mobile technology that’s set to transform every type of gadget you currently own.
4G doesn't exist : a mobile telecoms history
4G is a figment of our imagination - that’s the message this week from IT, media and telecoms analysts Strand Consult. A handy, easy-to-grasp way of referring to the next generation of mobile telecoms, 4G is a phrase regularly used by the media, and even some analysts. But, Strand point out, it doesn’t actually exist!
4G Networks Spell Hope for Mobile VOIP
Driven by the advent of 4G networks, Gartner predicts that in 10 years more than half of all mobile voice traffic will be carried end-to-end using VOIP. - The conditions for the expansion of mobile VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) have yet to materialize and are not likely to become right for at least five years and perhaps as long as eight years.
LTE Handset in 2010 a Longshot Despite 4G iPhone Hopes
Most chip vendors won’t have the silicon ready to support an LTE phone next year, and those that do just don’t see the business case Speculation is crescendoing that Verizon Wireless and Apple are not only on the verge of locking down a deal for an iPhone, but that the two plan to launch a 4G device on Verizon’s new long-term evolution (LTE) network next year. But a poll of chipset makers supplying the crucial LTE silicon reveals just what an unlikely proposition that is.

Will Mobile Social Networks Be Thrown for a Loopt?
Location-based mobile social networks, such as Loopt, GyPSii and Pelago, could be a $3.3 billion market by 2013. But history and current trends suggest these startups won’t be standing on their own for some time. Loopt has already won deals with Sprint and Verizon, GyPSii is working with Samsung and Garmin, Google’s acquired Jaiku, and Nokia bought Plazes.
Hi5 goes mobile: It's a bigger deal than you think
But more importantly, Hi5’s mobile site is a marketing effort to reach its most loyal customers. MySpace and Facebook’s current mobile sites are intended as supplements to the browser-based editions, but Hi5 openly targets the “millions of international users who primarily use mobile devices, instead of a personal computer, to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues.” After all, access to PCs is less common in many Latin American countries than in Hi5’s home country. Recent statistics from ComScore indicate that Hi5 has doubled its visitor count over the past year and that much of its foothold is in Latin America; the social-networking industry in that region of the world has grown by a third since mid-2007, according to the same statistics.
